Microsoft (MSFT) has rolled out a major AI upgrade for Windows 11, enhancing its Copilot assistant with new features designed to make the tool more intuitive and useful across devices.
The update introduces voice activation with the wake phrase “Hey Copilot”, allowing users to launch the assistant hands-free to perform commands, automate workflows, or access information instantly. Microsoft also expanded Copilot Vision, a feature that analyzes what’s on-screen to provide real-time assistance, to all global markets where Copilot is available.
A text-based version of Vision will soon launch for Windows Insiders, giving users more flexibility to interact with Copilot. The company also unveiled a new “Copilot Actions” mode — currently experimental — enabling the AI to book reservations, order groceries, or manage other real-world tasks directly from the desktop, with strict permission controls.
Beyond productivity, Microsoft introduced “Gaming Copilot” on Xbox Ally consoles, giving players in-game recommendations, strategy tips, and support powered by the same AI system.
Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s consumer CMO, said the company’s focus is to “integrate AI naturally into the hundreds of millions of experiences people use every day,” signaling a shift toward AI-embedded computing rather than standalone assistants.
