Samsung Electronics faces a $445.5 million penalty after a Texas federal jury found it infringed four wireless communication patents owned by Collision Communications. The patents cover core technologies used in 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi connectivity across Samsung’s devices, including Galaxy smartphones and laptops.

The lawsuit, filed in 2023, alleged Samsung used patented methods developed from BAE Systems research to boost wireless network efficiency without authorization. The jury sided with Collision, rejecting Samsung’s defense that the patents were invalid.

Neither company has issued a comment on the verdict, which adds to a series of costly patent losses Samsung has faced in the Marshall, Texas court — a well-known venue for intellectual property disputes.
