Serve Robotics has teamed up with DoorDash to deploy its autonomous sidewalk robots for food deliveries, expanding beyond its exclusive partnership with Uber Eats. The collaboration begins in Los Angeles and will gradually roll out nationwide, the company announced Thursday.
Serve’s stock jumped over 25% after the news, hitting an eight-month high. “Now that we have such a significant fleet size, we’re looking for more demand so that the robots have access to more jobs,” said CEO Ali Kashani, adding that the partnership could eventually match Uber Eats in scale and revenue.
Serve’s robots have already completed 100,000 deliveries across major U.S. cities, serving 2,500 restaurants. The alliance with DoorDash, the nation’s largest food delivery platform, is expected to dramatically expand Serve’s reach and operational capacity amid a broader industry shift toward automated last-mile logistics.
The move comes as DoorDash unveils its own in-house delivery robot, Dot, and deepens its use of automation technologies, including drone deliveries through Alphabet’s Wing.
