Waymo, Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle division, announced it will begin manual testing of its self-driving cars at Newark Liberty International Airport, working alongside the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The tests will involve human drivers monitoring vehicle performance as the company prepares for a wider rollout of its robotaxi service.

The firm has steadily expanded its presence in the U.S., despite regulatory and technological challenges. Through collaborations with ride-hailing and fleet partners, Waymo continues to push forward at a time when rivals like Tesla and General Motors’ Cruise face increased scrutiny over safety issues.

With this latest move, Waymo demonstrates its long-term vision of reliable and scalable autonomous transport. The company also plans to launch its first fully driverless ride-hailing service in London by 2026, strengthening its position in the global race for autonomous mobility.
