Lunar lander maker Intuitive Machines will acquire Lanteris Space Systems — formerly Maxar Space Systems — from private equity firm Advent International in an $800 million deal that broadens the company’s reach across the space sector. The transaction includes $450 million in cash and $350 million in stock and is expected to close in early 2026 pending regulatory approval.

CEO Steve Altemus said the acquisition marks a pivotal step in Intuitive Machines’ evolution from a lunar specialist into a full-service space company capable of designing, building, and operating spacecraft for both government and commercial clients. The combined entity is projected to generate over $850 million in annual revenue with $920 million in contracted backlog as of September.

Lanteris manufactures satellites and spacecraft used for defense, communications, and scientific research. Advent, which took Maxar private in a $4 billion deal last year, will retain an undisclosed minority stake in the merged firm.

The acquisition builds on Intuitive Machines’ recent purchase of KinetX, a deep-space navigation company, and strengthens its position in upcoming NASA and U.S. Air Force missions. However, the company’s latest quarterly report showed revenue of $52.4 million, missing forecasts, and a $10 million net loss as it continues to expand its operations.
