SanDisk’s Tiny New USB-C Flash Drive Is Designed to Stay Plugged In
SanDisk is once again pushing the boundaries of portable storage, this time with what it calls the world’s smallest USB-C flash drive—a device so compact that you’ll likely never need to remove it. Officially launching on November 4, this ultra-tiny drive was previewed at the 2025 Pepcom Holiday Spectacular, where SanDisk representatives demonstrated its surprisingly low-profile design and functionality.
Unlike traditional thumb drives, which typically extend out from your laptop or tablet, this model sits perpendicular to the connector, making it almost flush with the device it’s plugged into. It’s a design that feels closer to a semi-permanent storage upgrade than a removable accessory. SanDisk’s spokesperson described it as “a drive that plugs in and stays in,” emphasizing how it’s meant to live quietly on your laptop or smartphone without getting in the way of daily use.
The new drive continues the design philosophy of SanDisk’s Ultra Fit series, first introduced at CES 2018 with a USB-A connector. At that time, the company even teased an early prototype of a USB-C version—something that’s now finally materializing in 2025. The combination of extreme miniaturization and a universal USB-C connector makes this release especially appealing for users with USB-C laptops, tablets, and Android smartphones, offering a seamless way to expand storage without clutter.
Performance-wise, the drive runs on a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, providing data transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps. While this isn’t as fast as the newer 10Gbps standard found on some higher-end devices, it’s still plenty quick for moving photos, documents, and videos. For everyday use—especially as a plug-and-stay drive for file backups, app storage, or media libraries—it’s more than adequate. SanDisk will also bundle its Memory Zone backup software, making it easier to automatically back up data from your devices.
SanDisk’s decision to create a near-flush USB-C drive addresses one of the biggest frustrations of traditional flash drives: accidental damage. Regular thumb drives stick out just far enough to catch on bags or desks, often bending or snapping under pressure. By reducing that protrusion, this new model minimizes those risks, making it ideal for people who work on the go or keep their laptops docked most of the time.
Pricing for the new USB-C flash drive will range from $14.99 for 64GB up to $109.99 for 1TB, and it’ll be available on Amazon starting November 4. For anyone tired of juggling external drives and dongles, this is a sleek, simple solution—a drive small enough to forget it’s even there, yet powerful enough to carry your digital life wherever you go.
