Logitech is making a fresh push into the mechanical keyboard scene with the launch of the new Alto Keys K98M, a model that might finally give the company some credibility in a space dominated by enthusiast-focused brands. While Logitech’s previous attempts at mechanical keyboards often failed to justify their premium pricing, the Alto Keys lineup looks surprisingly well thought out—both in features and in aesthetics.

The first thing that stands out is the design. Available in gray, white-and-gray, and an eye-catching “lilac” colorway, the K98M has a subtle flair that sets it apart from the brand’s usual minimalist designs. The lilac version, in particular, blends muted blues with transparent housing that reveals the gasket mount system beneath—a mounting method borrowed from custom mechanical keyboards. This approach cushions the keyboard’s internal components with vibration-dampening material, providing a softer, more cushioned typing feel that enthusiasts tend to love.

Under the hood, Logitech’s new “Marble Switches” take the spotlight. These are custom linear switches designed to provide a smooth keypress and are paired with durable PBT shine-through keycaps that resist wear and fading. Crucially, the switches are hot-swappable, meaning users can easily replace them with any Cherry MX-compatible switches—a huge plus for customization and longevity. The layout is a 96% form factor, offering nearly full-sized functionality in a more compact footprint, complete with Logitech’s signature multi-device wireless switching between Bluetooth and the included USB receiver. However, the lack of wired connectivity could disappoint some gamers who prefer direct input options.

What makes the K98M especially notable is its price. At $119.99, this is one of Logitech’s most aggressively priced enthusiast-style keyboards ever, undercutting many competitors that offer similar specs. For a wireless keyboard featuring gasket mounting, hot-swappable switches, and premium materials, the Alto Keys K98M could mark a real shift in Logitech’s approach—finally offering mechanical keyboard fans both quality and value.
