Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic is planning a multi-billion-dollar fundraising round that would value the company at around $350 billion, according to two sources familiar with the matter, representing a near doubling of its valuation in just four months.
The Claude chatbot maker is seeking to raise about $10 billion, with Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and hedge fund Coatue Management expected to lead the financing, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier on Wednesday. The funding round could close within weeks, although the size and terms may still change.
Anthropic, which counts Alphabet’s Google and Amazon among its backers, declined to comment on the report.
Soaring demand for artificial intelligence tools and accelerating enterprise adoption have driven global tech spending higher, pushing valuations of leading AI startups to unprecedented levels. This has occurred even as some investors warn of the risk of an AI valuation bubble forming.
Anthropic last raised $13 billion in a Series F funding round that valued the company at $183 billion, the startup said in early September. The company has also taken early steps toward a potential public listing, hiring law firm Wilson Sonsini to prepare for an initial public offering that could take place as early as 2026, according to a Financial Times report last month.
The Financial Times also reported that Anthropic had previously discussed a private funding round valuing the company at more than $300 billion. At the time, an Anthropic spokesperson told Reuters that the company had not decided whether or when it would go public.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has built a strong reputation among developers, particularly for its Claude models’ performance in coding-related tasks. Reuters reported in October that Anthropic was aiming to more than double, and potentially nearly triple, its annualized revenue run rate this year, driven by growing adoption of its enterprise AI products.
