Microsoft said it has restored access to its Microsoft 365 productivity suite after an outage disrupted services for thousands of users, while reports of problems dropped sharply, according to data from Downdetector.

As of 1:05 a.m. ET on Friday, there were around 113 user reports of issues with Microsoft 365, down from more than 15,890 reports at the peak a day earlier. The outage affected several widely used services, including Outlook, Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Purview.

Microsoft said on its official status page that the impacted infrastructure had been returned to a healthy state and that service disruptions had been resolved. Earlier, the company said it was rerouting traffic to alternate infrastructure as part of its recovery efforts after identifying a portion of its North America systems that was not processing traffic as expected.

The incident highlights the reliance of businesses and consumers on cloud-based productivity tools, where even short disruptions can affect communication, security and compliance workflows. Microsoft did not provide further details on the root cause of the issue.
