Roku has introduced a new feature called Subscriptions as part of its Roku OS 15.1 update, aiming to simplify how users find content from their paid streaming services. The update focuses largely on backend improvements, but Subscriptions stands out as a user-facing tool designed to reduce clutter and make discovery more efficient.
The Subscriptions section appears directly on the Roku Home menu and aggregates shows and movies from services users already pay for. Instead of browsing individual apps, users can scroll to a single row that highlights popular titles and a focused Continue Watching list tied only to subscription-based platforms.
While Roku already offers a Continue Watching row in its What to Watch section, the new Subscriptions version filters out content from free channels and one-off streams. This creates a more relevant list centered on premium services rather than mixed recommendations. Users who prefer a cleaner interface can also hide the original What to Watch row through the Home Screen settings.
Beyond Continue Watching, the Subscriptions hub includes an aggregated Saved List, newly available titles from subscribed platforms, and “included with” categories that highlight content available under existing plans. Trending rows still appear, but they are placed lower in the section to keep the focus on user-selected services.
Roku OS 15.1 also brings a range of developer-oriented enhancements, including new tools for tracking app performance and expanded metadata support for media playback. For everyday users, however, Subscriptions represents the most noticeable change, offering a more streamlined way to keep track of paid streaming content across multiple platforms.
