Spotify is once again raising its subscription prices, giving users yet another reason to reassess whether the popular music-streaming service still offers the best value. Beginning next month, the cost of an individual Spotify Premium plan in the U.S. will increase to $12.99 per month, marking a $1 jump from the current $11.99 rate. The hike continues Spotify’s recent trend of incremental but frequent price increases across its entire Premium lineup.

The changes extend well beyond individual plans. Spotify Premium Duo, designed for two users, will rise from $16.99 to $18.99 per month, while the Premium Family plan will see its price increase from $19.99 to $21.99 per month. Even the discounted Premium Student plan is not spared, climbing from $5.99 to $6.99 per month. While each increase may seem modest on its own, the combined effect further narrows the gap between Spotify and competing music-streaming services.

According to Variety, existing Spotify subscribers will soon receive emails outlining the new pricing, which is expected to take effect after their next billing cycle. New subscribers, however, will feel the impact immediately if they sign up for Duo or Family plans, as those tiers will launch at the higher prices right away. Users opting for individual or student plans will still receive a one-month free trial before the updated rates apply.

This marks Spotify’s latest price adjustment following its previous increase in June 2024, when individual subscriptions rose from $10.99 to $11.99 per month. That move was already the company’s second price hike within a single year, highlighting a broader shift in Spotify’s pricing strategy as it looks to improve margins. Still, despite the increases, music-streaming subscriptions remain relatively affordable compared to video-streaming services, with most individual plans across the industry still hovering not far above the $10-per-month mark that dominated the market for nearly a decade.
