Swedish automaker Volvo Cars is recalling 413,151 vehicles in the United States due to a software issue affecting the rearview camera, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall covers model-year 2021 to 2025 XC40 vehicles. NHTSA said the problem will be fixed through a software update, which can be installed either by a dealer or via an over-the-air (OTA) update, at no cost to owners.
Volvo told Reuters that this marks the second recall involving the same vehicles in the U.S. market, following an earlier recall issued in May last year.
“The second recall follows the initial recall from May 2025 and is the result of an additional issue having been found that causes the same symptom,” the company said.
Volvo added that it is preparing an updated remedial software package for all affected vehicles, with an OTA rollout expected to begin in the coming weeks.
