Texas has filed a lawsuit against networking company TP-Link, accusing it of misleading consumers about the privacy and security of its devices.
The state alleges that TP-Link products may have been exploited by China-backed cyber groups to conduct attacks against U.S. targets. Officials argue that the company’s reliance on Chinese-made components could pose a national security threat.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated that the devices’ design may enable unauthorized access to American users’ data.
TP-Link denied the claims, saying the Chinese government has no control over its operations or user data. The company emphasized that its core infrastructure is based in the United States and that user data is stored on domestic cloud servers.
The lawsuit follows an earlier investigation and comes amid broader scrutiny of technology firms with links to China.
