Google is significantly upgrading its Gemini AI across Google Workspace, shifting from prompt-based assistance to a more autonomous, knowledge-driven system.

Instead of requiring users to manually input instructions and context, Gemini can now draw directly from Workspace data—such as documents, emails, and files—to generate content and insights.

From prompts to “knowledge”

Previously, users had to specify what to write and how to format it. Now, Gemini can analyze existing data and automatically synthesize content, aligning with how people actually work.

In Google Docs, this means:

  • Generating documents based on existing files
  • Editing tone and style for consistency
  • Aligning content with company guidelines

Smarter presentations and data tools

In Google Slides, users can create full presentations by pulling in Workspace data, with AI handling layout, structure, and design.

Meanwhile, Google Sheets gains more advanced capabilities:

  • Building spreadsheets from emails and documents
  • Automatically filling missing data
  • Answering questions about datasets without formulas

Google is also enhancing Google Drive with AI-powered search that extracts insights instead of just listing files.

Limited access—for now

These features will roll out in the coming months but are restricted to premium tiers such as Google AI Pro, Ultra, and enterprise users with Gemini Alpha enabled.

A shift toward autonomous workflows

The updates reflect a broader trend: AI tools are moving from assistants to active collaborators, capable of turning scattered information into structured outputs with minimal input.

While the potential productivity gains are significant, the higher pricing tiers may limit access for everyday users.
