Nvidia has announced DLSS 4.5 at the Game Developers Conference, introducing a range of performance and visual upgrades for PC gaming, set to roll out starting March 31.
Dynamic frame generation takes center stage
The headline feature, Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation, allows DLSS to automatically scale frame generation between 1x and 6x, depending on system performance and target frame rate.
This means the technology can dynamically adjust output to match a display’s refresh rate—such as 144Hz or 240Hz—while maintaining smooth gameplay. On supported hardware, DLSS can generate up to five additional frames for every rendered frame.
More enhancements for modern graphics
DLSS 4.5 also introduces additional technologies aimed at improving next-gen visuals:
- RTX Mega Geometry for better performance in path-traced environments
- Specialized optimizations for foliage rendering
- Expanded path tracing support in upcoming titles
Games like 007 First Light and Control Resonant are among those expected to benefit from these updates.
Expanding RTX to older games
Nvidia is also backing community-driven projects that bring RTX lighting to older titles such as Portal 2, Need for Speed: Carbon, and Call of Duty 2, extending modern graphics features beyond new releases.
No new hardware in sight
Despite the software advancements, Nvidia did not announce any new GPUs. Rumored updates to the RTX 50-series lineup remain absent, with industry speculation pointing to increased focus on AI-related hardware production.
For now, Nvidia’s strategy appears centered on software-driven performance gains, pushing existing hardware further rather than introducing new consumer GPUs.
