Zoox, Amazon’s self-driving unit, is expanding its robotaxi operations in the United States, increasing its presence in San Francisco and Las Vegas while launching new testing programs in Austin and Miami.

The company plans to extend coverage in San Francisco to high-demand areas such as Chinatown, the Marina and the Embarcadero. In Las Vegas, it is targeting additional hotels and entertainment locations along the Strip to grow usage.

Zoox will also begin testing its purpose-built robotaxis on public roads in Austin and Miami. Initial access will be limited to employees and selected users before a broader rollout later this year.

The expansion comes as competition intensifies in the autonomous ride-hailing market. Waymo currently leads the sector, while Tesla is also pushing to scale its services across the United States.

Zoox said it has already logged nearly 2 million autonomous miles and served more than 350,000 riders, as it continues to refine its technology and improve service efficiency.
