Asus ROG Strix Scope II 96 RX Keyboard Hits Record-Low Price

The Asus ROG Strix Scope II 96 RX has dropped to its lowest recorded price yet, with Amazon currently offering the gaming keyboard for approximately $120 — a 33 percent discount from its original $180 retail price.

The deal places Asus’ premium wireless gaming keyboard into a more competitive position within the high-end enthusiast keyboard market.

Compact Full-Size Layout Targets Gamers and Productivity Users

The Scope II 96 RX uses a 96 percent layout, retaining most full-sized keyboard functionality while reducing overall desk footprint compared to traditional full-size designs.

The keyboard includes a removable palm rest and supports multiple connectivity options including wired USB, 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth modes.

Its hybrid design appeals not only to gamers but also to productivity-focused users who still want a number pad without moving to a much larger keyboard chassis.

Optical Switches Focus on Speed and Durability

Unlike the standard mechanical version previously reviewed by critics, the discounted model uses Asus’ proprietary ROG RX optical switches.

Optical switches register key presses using light-based actuation rather than traditional metal contact mechanisms, reducing debounce delay and improving input responsiveness.

Asus claims the switches are rated for up to 100 million keystrokes, positioning the keyboard toward long-term heavy use and competitive gaming scenarios.

The board also includes pre-lubed stabilizers and internal sound-dampening foam designed to reduce typing noise and improve acoustic performance.

Battery Life Varies Depending on RGB Usage

Battery life remains one of the keyboard’s stronger features.

According to Asus, the Scope II 96 RX can deliver up to 378 hours of wireless usage with RGB lighting disabled. With lighting enabled, battery endurance reportedly drops closer to the 90-to-110-hour range depending on connection mode.

The keyboard’s heavier 2.23-pound weight may reduce portability despite its wireless design, making it better suited for desk setups than travel use.

Customization Limitations May Affect Enthusiasts

One of the primary trade-offs involves Asus’ proprietary optical switch ecosystem.

Because the ROG RX switches use a non-standard stem design, compatibility with third-party keycaps and broader enthusiast keyboard customization options is more limited compared to conventional MX-style mechanical switches.

Still, for users prioritizing smooth optical key feel, wireless gaming performance and long battery life, the discounted pricing significantly improves the keyboard’s value proposition within the premium gaming accessory market.
