Last September, Newegg launched a trade-in program where you could exchange an old graphics card for a new one from the retailer and receive store credit of up to a few hundred dollars. Now, the program has expanded to include CPUs and some laptops, offering a straightforward way to upgrade your tech while getting a reasonable payout for your old equipment.

When purchasing a new CPU from Newegg, you might notice a bright purple box highlighting the trade-in values. These range from $50 for an Intel Core i3-12100 or $110 for a Ryzen 5 7600, to as much as $320 for a Ryzen 9 7950X3D and $380 for an Intel Core i9-14900KS.

The process is simple: submit a trade-in application, and if approved, Newegg will send you a free shipping label to send in your old CPU. Once Newegg evaluates and tests the part, they’ll refund the cost of your new CPU if the trade-in is accepted. If not, you’ll get your old CPU back at no extra cost.

Newegg also offers a similar trade-in program for old desktops, laptops, 2-in-1s, tablets, Apple MacBooks, iPads, and Chromebooks. However, this program caps payouts at $400. To qualify, you need to purchase a qualifying PC from Newegg by August 11, wait 14 days, and submit a claim within 45 days of purchase. Note that eligibility is typically limited to PCs with Intel 14th-gen Core processors.

While these trade-in programs provide an easy upgrade path, selling your old gear privately might yield higher returns, though it involves dealing with the complexities of online sales and shipping.
