AMD’s X3D processors, known for their extra V-cache designed to enhance 3D gaming performance, have become highly sought after among system builders. Their popularity might even explain the lukewarm reception of the initial Ryzen 9000 CPUs.

Recent news from Asus indicates that the X3D versions are indeed on their way, albeit through a bit of a leak. According to Twitter leaker @momomo_us (via PCGamer), a deep dive into Asus motherboard support pages revealed references to “9000-X3D” in the URL, hinting at forthcoming X3D models.

While the public-facing pages for the X870 and X870E motherboards don’t explicitly mention these new processors, the metadata spotted by VideoCardz.com does: “Asus AMD X870E & 870 motherboards are designed for AMD Ryzen 9000 series X3D processors and are ready for Advanced AI PCs.”

The timeline for their release remains uncertain. The Ryzen 7000 series started with a September 2022 launch, followed by the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 7900X3D in February 2023. This suggests that the Ryzen 9000X3D chips might not appear before 2025. However, given the X3D variants’ popularity among gamers, AMD might be motivated to release these processors sooner. Speculation is high, and while concrete evidence of an accelerated release is lacking, a marketing push for the X3D models could be in the works. As a current user of a 7800X3D, I hope for an earlier launch but will await further confirmation.
