In 2023, Microsoft made the significant decision to phase out the Mail, Calendar, and People apps on Windows, announcing that they would be fully replaced by Outlook for Windows. These legacy apps remain available on the Microsoft Store until December 31, 2024, but after that, Outlook will be the only option.
This transition hasn’t been entirely smooth, as many users have voiced frustration over the new Outlook app’s lack of features that were staples in the older apps. However, it appears Microsoft has taken these criticisms seriously and is responding accordingly. Reports from Windows Latest indicate that around 30 new features will be added to Outlook for Windows later this year.
Among the anticipated features are support for PST files, enhanced control over email retention policies, and the ability to pin important folders for easier access. Additionally, for those interested in AI tools, Copilot will be integrated to help users rewrite and polish their emails before sending.
