Earlier this week, Microsoft rolled out an optional update for Windows 10 that introduces a few enhancements to the Start menu and addresses a login error that has persisted for several months without resolution.
To take advantage of this update, identified by the code KB5043133, you’ll need to apply it manually. Otherwise, you can choose to wait for its automatic release in October.
On the official support page for update KB5043133, Microsoft highlights a visual change to the Start menu that, while not drastically functional, is still quite intriguing. Users may notice their profile picture has been repositioned, and the left pane of the Start menu now features a new background color designed to enhance visibility.
In addition to the Start menu tweaks, this update also resolves a login bug that has been a headache for some users since March. Those affected—primarily individuals utilizing Microsoft applications with company single sign-on (SSO)—were repeatedly prompted to sign in when attempting to access Microsoft services. This glitch proved to be time-consuming, making the fix particularly welcome, even if it took a while to arrive.
According to a related blog post, further improvements are expected for SSO users to streamline and enhance the signing-in process.
Additionally, the patch includes several minor fixes, such as addressing issues with Microsoft Edge freezing in Internet Explorer mode, Windows server hangs when using File Explorer or the taskbar, and syncing problems with Work Folder files when Defender for Endpoint is enabled.
How to Install This Update
The KB5043133 update is currently available exclusively for users running Windows 10 version 22H2 and must be installed manually. To do so, navigate to Settings, select Windows Update, and check for new updates. Look for the optional update code KB5043133 in the list, click on Download and Install, and then restart your PC to apply the changes.
If you decide not to install this optional update, rest assured that all the fixes will still be available when the October Patch Day arrives.
