Microsoft has been implementing several changes to the Windows 11 taskbar, yet there remains ample room for further enhancements. Following the recent Windows 11 2024 Update, which introduced numerous features and improvements, Microsoft is already looking forward to the next update and its potential offerings.

According to a report by Windows Latest and observations from Twitter user @phantomofearth, a forthcoming version of Windows 11, currently available only to Insiders on the Beta Channel, will allow users to adjust the size of taskbar items.

In the latest Beta version of Windows 11, users can find a new toggle in the Taskbar section of Windows Settings that enables the option to show smaller taskbar buttons. The settings include options for Always, Never, and When the taskbar is full. However, it’s important to note that this feature isn’t yet fully operational.

This functionality was previously available in Windows 10 but was removed for unclear reasons upon the launch of Windows 11. Reintroducing this option is a fantastic way to reclaim a bit of valuable screen real estate, making it a welcomed change.

For those not enrolled in the Windows Insider program, this feature is expected to be released to the general public sometime in November or December.
