Oppo has had a challenging year, facing a patent dispute that led to a temporary withdrawal from some European markets.
However, with these issues now resolved, Oppo is poised for a strong comeback with the launch of its new flagship series, the Oppo Find X8.
With a launch expected soon and a key spec confirmed, here’s everything you need to know.
When will the Oppo Find X8 be released?
The Oppo Find X8 series is expected to be launched in China around 21 October 2024, according to a Chinese leaker Digital Station (via GSMArena).
This timing is strategic, as it allows Oppo to introduce its devices ahead of competitors like the Xiaomi 15 series, which is also gearing up to release its next flagship models.
Following the launch in China, the Find X8 series is likely to make its way to other markets, including Europe. This could take a few months, making a global launch around Mobile World Congress in February 2025 possible.

- Oppo Find X6 – March 2023 (available only in China)

How much will the Oppo Find X8 cost?
While the exact pricing for the Oppo Find X8 hasn’t been officially revealed, we can estimate based on the previous models and market trends. However, the Find X7 series wasn’t available globally so it’s hard to determine how much the Find X8 series might cost.
The Find X7 Ultra retailed for CNY 5,999 in China (around £800/$1000), so expect the Find X8 Ultra to be priced similarly. The Find X8 and Find X8 Pro should cost around £200/$200 and £100/$100 less than the Ultra respectively.
What specs and features will the Oppo Find X8 have?
The Oppo Find X8 series is shaping up to be a powerhouse, with significant upgrades in several key areas.

Design
The Oppo Find X8 series is rumoured (via GSMArena) to feature a sleek, modern design with a flat frame, marking a departure from the curved screens of its predecessors.
The back of the device will likely sport a redesigned camera island, and the phone might be available in multiple colour options, including Black, White, Blue and Pink.
Both the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro models are expected to have glass backs, giving them a premium look and feel.
According to a leaker Ice Universe, the series will feature a ‘Quick Button,’ reminiscent of the Capture Button in Apple’s iPhone 16 models and already seen in Sony smartphones.
Positioned to facilitate camera use, the Quick Button might be a capacitive button that supports sliding gestures for zooming in photos and video, and it may also function in gaming.
It can also be used to lock focus or take photos with varying pressure, potentially offering more customisable options for users.
What’s more, a recent image shared by Oppo Chief Product Officer Pete Lau compares the Find X8 with the iPhone 16 Pro, highlighting the slim bezels on both devices, with the Find X8 reportedly featuring 1.45mm bezels (according to Ice Universe), potentially the thinnest on the market.
An additional image of the regular Find X8 has also appeared on Weibo. While the front design is seemingly confirmed, the back design remains uncertain due to conflicting leaks.
The front features a flat display with an ultra-thin bezel and a centred camera hole, making it one of the slimmest bezels in the industry, according to Ice Universe. The power, lock, and volume buttons are on the right, while the alert slider is on the left.
The leaked back design (via Gagadget.com) shows a round camera island, containing a periscope telephoto, a wide, and an ultrawide lens.
The camera cutouts differ from a previous leak (via Android Headlines), and the design blends with the backplate.
Display
According to the GSMArena, the Find X8 will have a 6.7-inch flat OLED screen with a 1.5K resolution (1256 x 2760 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Find X8 Ultra, on the other hand, might come with a 6.8-inch 8T LTPO display with 3168 x 1440 pixels resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
Digital Chat Station recently shared hands-on images on Weibo that reportedly reveal the front of a prototype of the Find X8, hidden under a large case to disguise its appearance.
One notable feature that can be seen is Oppo’s version of Apple’s Dynamic Island. This means that the Find X8 may resemble the iPhone 16 even more than anyone previously thought.
Performance
It’s been confirmed that MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9400 chipset will make its debut on the Find X8 series. The new flagship promises big improvements to performance and power efficiency, plus an extensive focus on AI features.
However, it’s not yet clear which Find X8 models will use the Dimensity 9400. Oppo may continue with its approach from the Find X7 series, where the regular model used the Dimensity 9300 but the top-of-the-line Ultra used Qualcomm instead, especially with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 on the way soon.
According to Geekbench test results, the Dimensity 94000 phone can achieve scores of 2,876 for single-core and 8,987 for multi-core performance. The chip uses a big-core structure with 1 Cortex-X5 core clocked at 3.4GHz, 3 Cortex-X4 cores at 3.3GHz, and 4 Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4GHz.
The Pro and Ultra models might also feature advanced cooling systems to manage the enhanced performance regardless of chipset, ensuring smooth multitasking and gaming experiences.
Another leak on Weibo (via GSMArena) reveals the Find X8’s performance on the AnTuTu benchmark, running MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400. The chipset achieved an impressive score of 2,880,558 on AnTuTu 10, surpassing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Apple’s M4, though cross-platform comparisons aren’t officially recommended.
The Dimensity 9400, featuring 1 Cortex-X5 core at 3.4 GHz, 3 Cortex-X4 cores at 3.3 GHz, and 4 Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4 GHz, is built on TSMC’s 3nm N3E process. While it’s currently the top performer, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may surpass it soon after launch.
Cameras
Cameras have always been a highlight of the Find X series and the Find X8 is expected to continue this trend.
The standard model will likely feature a triple-camera setup, including a 50Mp main sensor, a 50Mp ultrawide lens and a 3x periscope telephoto lens.
The Pro version might add an additional 10x periscope lens, offering superior zoom capabilities.
According to leaker Digital Chat Station, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra will feature four 50Mp cameras, similar to its predecessor, the Find X7 Ultra.
According to a leak, two of these cameras will be periscope telephoto lenses. However, unlike the Find X7 Ultra, the Find X8 Ultra will reportedly skip the Sony IMX858 sensor, used for 6x optical zoom in the previous model.
While specific sensor details remain unclear, it’s suggested that the Find X8 Ultra’s camera capabilities may surpass those of the Vivo X100 Ultra’s 200Mp periscope telephoto camera.
Battery & Charging
The standard Find X8 is rumoured to pack a 5,600mAh battery, while the Pro model could feature a slightly larger 5,700mAh battery. Both models are expected to support 100W wired fast charging, ensuring that users can recharge their devices quickly and efficiently.
Meanwhile, a Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station claims that the Oppo Find X8 Ultra will come with a 6,000mAh battery. That’s 1,000 mAh more than the Find X7 Ultra. However, the wired and wireless charging speeds remain the same at 100W and 50W, respectively.
Additionally, Oppo might adopt silicon-carbon battery technology, which could further enhance battery life and durability.
Software
The Oppo Find X8 series will likely run on ColorOS, based on Android 14, when it launches in China. However, an update to Android 15 will likely be available by the time it arrives in Europe.
The new version is expected to bring a host of new features and improvements, including enhanced privacy settings, more customisation options and better integration with Oppo’s ecosystem of devices.
