On Thursday, AMD unveiled its third-generation Ryzen Pro processors, bringing the AI capabilities of its consumer Ryzen AI 300 series to business laptops. The new lineup features three closely related models with core counts varying from eight to twelve cores, set to launch later this month.

The Ryzen AI Pro 300 series builds on the earlier Ryzen AI 300 consumer processor, incorporating additional security technologies tailored for business environments. Leveraging AMD’s latest Zen 5 architecture, these chips boast enhanced core counts and powerful RDNA 3.5 graphics. Notably, the series introduces the XDNA 2 NPU architecture, significantly increasing the total operations per second (TOPS) from the previous Ryzen Pro 8040 series—from 16 to an impressive 50-55 TOPS, depending on the specific model.

Manufactured using a 4nm process technology, the Ryzen AI Pro 300 processors maintain similar power consumption levels, ranging from 15 to 54 watts. The new offerings include the Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 375, Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370, and Ryzen AI 7 HX Pro 360.

AMD is positioning the Ryzen AI Pro 300 series as the only X86 business processor that meets the 40-TOPS threshold required for Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC standard. In comparison, Intel has yet to release a business-focused version of its upcoming Lunar Lake processor. Qualcomm previously entered the market with its AI-driven Snapdragon X Elite chip for Windows on Arm. Notably, to utilize these AI features, AMD will require a software update from Microsoft.

In addition to AI capabilities, AMD is introducing new security enhancements. These include Cloud Bare Metal Recovery for cloud-based system recovery, AMD Device Identity for ensuring authenticity throughout the supply chain, and a Watch Dog Timer function that helps identify and recover stalled processes.

Despite being a minority player in the notebook market, AMD has steadily gained traction, increasing its share from 16.5% a year ago to just above 20% as of Q2, according to Mercury Research. The company plans to ship over 100 different notebook models with Ryzen AI Pro processors in partnership with manufacturers like HP and Lenovo.
