Microsoft is tackling the clutter in its Edge browser’s Settings page, aiming to make it more navigable and user-friendly. The update, highlighted by Windows Latest and detailed on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, will introduce significant changes designed to simplify access to the most important settings. Given the steady growth in Edge’s features over recent updates, this reorganization comes at a crucial time, particularly as Settings has become increasingly difficult to navigate.

The update includes three primary components. First, users will see “quick access” links to commonly used actions on the main landing page of the Settings menu. This step ensures that users can reach high-priority functions without having to hunt through numerous menus. Next, Microsoft plans to add similar quick-access options to several dense subpages, including Privacy, Appearance, Cookies and Site Permissions, and System and Performance. This will make these sections more user-friendly by consolidating high-use actions right where users need them.

The final change involves creating a clickable “table of contents” for each of these densely packed subpages, allowing users to drill down into more specific options within each category without getting overwhelmed. The end goal is a streamlined experience, providing Edge users with a more intuitive Settings page that reduces the time spent searching for tools or preferences.

The update is expected to roll out in October with general availability, though it might take longer for the improvements to reach the stable version of Edge. Once fully released, these changes should make the Settings experience less daunting and more focused, helping Edge keep pace as a highly customizable and accessible browser.
