Intel has had a whirlwind week of news, spanning both challenges and milestones. Amid these developments, a notable achievement has surfaced in the Steam Hardware Survey, which offers a real-time glimpse into gaming hardware trends. In November, Intel’s Arc GPU family made its debut on the list, capturing 0.19% of the Steam user base.

However, this figure doesn’t represent Intel’s discrete Arc GPUs. Instead, it reflects integrated graphics in laptops powered by the new Core Ultra series processors. Despite their novelty, these integrated GPUs are currently outpaced by older Intel graphics technologies like Iris Xe, Intel HD, and UHD graphics, which hold larger shares on the Steam survey.

The top-ranking integrated GPU for November was “AMD Radeon Graphics”, which encompasses a variety of chips and holds a 2.05% share. A similarly named entry, “AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics,” adds another 1.1%, showcasing AMD’s strength in the integrated graphics market. Meanwhile, none of Intel’s discrete Arc GPUs, despite being on the market for over two years, have yet to appear in the survey’s rankings. The lowest-ranking GPU among the 90 entries remains Nvidia’s laptop RTX 3080, highlighting the uphill climb for Intel’s discrete graphics lineup.

Combining all its integrated laptop GPUs, Intel holds a 7.69% share of the Steam GPU market. Given Steam’s audience, which skews toward PC gaming enthusiasts and desktop users, this is a respectable foothold. Both Intel and AMD made modest gains in November, with AMD rising by 1.24 percentage points to 16.24%.

Despite these incremental gains, Nvidia’s dominance remains unshaken. The company commands a staggering 75.76% market share, with its top 12 slots occupied entirely by discrete GPUs, led by the RTX 3060 at 5.03%. Looking ahead, Nvidia and AMD are preparing to launch new discrete GPUs early next year. However, Intel has an opportunity to steal the spotlight this December with the release of its second-generation, budget-friendly Battlemage Arc B580 GPU, a move that could help expand its footprint in the competitive graphics market.
