Microsoft 365 to Get a Fresh Look and New Features in 2025
Microsoft is preparing to roll out a major update to its Microsoft 365 app in mid-January 2025, marking a shift in both its user interface and branding. The app will undergo a visual overhaul, including a new icon and a name change to “Microsoft 365 Copilot.” Alongside these updates, several user interface changes are being introduced to improve functionality and user experience.
One of the most noticeable changes is the removal of the top header. Tools like the user profile, settings, and feedback will be relocated to the bottom-left toolbar. The feedback button will be found under the “Settings and more” section in this toolbar. The search box, previously placed at the top, will now be featured on the homepage, making it easier for users to search for their content across multiple file types and storage locations. Importantly, while the search function’s location is changing, there will be no alterations to the search experience itself.
Additionally, all apps on the left toolbar will now be aligned at the top, and the AI-powered features such as Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and Copilot Pages will be grouped together for better integration. The organization logo, which was previously displayed in the top header, will no longer be visible in the app, though it will still appear in other Microsoft 365 apps.
Other significant changes include the removal of the “Back” button on the Windows Microsoft 365 Copilot app, with navigation instead handled via the left AppBar. The “My Day” feature, which offered calendar and to-do list integration, will also be eliminated, though it will still be available in other Microsoft 365 apps. Furthermore, the “Help me create” feature, which was introduced earlier this year to help users generate content using AI, will be retired. As part of this shift, AI-powered document creation tools will now be integrated into the new Copilot tab, allowing users to brainstorm and draft documents directly in Copilot Chat.
These changes will be implemented across Microsoft 365, with the company aiming for a mid-January 2025 rollout.
