Asus Takes the “War on Cables” to the Next Level with 1,000W Graphics Card Power Connection

The trend of simplifying cable management in PCs, known as the “War on Cables,” is heating up, and Asus is leading the charge. In 2023 and 2024, the company introduced its “BTF” motherboards and cases, designed to discreetly hide cables behind the motherboard. Now, at CES 2025, Asus is showing off a bold new step: a massive 1,000-watt graphics card power connection directly on the motherboard.

This new design builds on Asus’ earlier attempt at simplifying power connections, which featured a proprietary connection capable of powering a RTX 4070 Ti or 4090 graphics card with up to 600 watts. The new version significantly increases the power throughput to 1,000 watts, allowing for even more robust power delivery without cluttering up the case with extra cables.

The updated GC-HPWR connection comes with a removable component that acts as a bridge between the motherboard and the GPU. This feature allows users to remove the connector, making the graphics card compatible with standard motherboards and power supplies. In turn, this gives users the option to switch between BTF-equipped and traditional setups, making installation of both standard and BTF graphics cards much easier.

Though these new designs are still in the conceptual phase, Asus has hinted that they could be ready for wider release in 2025, with potential announcements at Computex in May. For now, it’s clear that Asus is looking to push the envelope in PC design, offering both improved power delivery and better cable management for a cleaner, more efficient build.
