DirecTV MySports Package: A New Sports Bundle to Rival Venu Sports
DirecTV has just launched its MySports package in 24 metro markets, offering a bundle of 40 sports channels, including some major players like ESPN, ESPN2, and Fox Sports 1. This is the latest offering in the ongoing sports streaming bundle wars, following the collapse of the never-launched Venu Sports package. The MySports package includes popular networks like ACC Network, Big Ten Network, MLB Network, and NBA TV, ensuring that fans of various sports are well covered. In addition to these, subscribers will also gain access to local ABC, Fox, and NBC stations, with ESPN+ and additional local channels expected to be added soon.
For the price of $49.99 a month (with a three-month promotional offer), MySports seems to be a solid option for sports fans. This puts it just $7 more than Venu Sports’ anticipated price of $42.99 for a similar bundle. However, the cost will increase to $69.99 per month after the promotional period ends on February 28, making it considerably more expensive than Venu Sports would have been.
For a cheaper alternative, Sling TV Orange offers ESPN channels for $45.99/month, but it lacks the extensive lineup of sports networks that MySports provides. Meanwhile, live TV services like Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV offer comprehensive sports coverage, but they cost over $80/month.
The MySports package reflects a larger shift in the market, with DirecTV capitalizing on the Venu Sports shutdown to roll out a competitive sports streaming bundle. The arrival of these bundles is only expected to grow as Disney prepares its standalone ESPN service, further expanding options for cord-cutters.
