South Korean tech giant Samsung has developed a new wireless charging chip that will offer an upgrade to much faster wireless charging.

Qi2 is coming to phones in 2025, as well as support for the new Qi2.2 wireless standard, which will be launched later this year.

The new chip, S2MIW06, is said to be capable of wireless charging up to 50W. This is a huge improvement over last year’s top-of-the-line Samsung phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which only supported 15W wireless charging.

However, it is unclear whether the new chip will be present in Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 phones that will be unveiled next week.

According to earlier reports, the phones will not have built-in support for Qi2 charging but hopefully, things have changed since then and it would help Samsung stand out against rivals such as Apple and Google.

The technology could also find its way into other Samsung devices.
