Snapdragon PCs Gain Semantic Search in Latest Windows Insider Build
Qualcomm-powered Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs running Microsoft’s latest Windows Insider Dev Channel build can now access a new feature: semantic search. Unlike traditional search, semantic search allows users to describe what they’re looking for without needing exact keywords, making it easier to locate specific files or settings on their PC.
First introduced in October as part of Microsoft’s AI roadmap, this capability is exclusive to Snapdragon PCs for now, leveraging their Neural Processing Units (NPUs) to process and understand descriptive queries. Microsoft highlights that users can describe images and documents when searching in File Explorer or the Settings app. Supported file formats include TXT, PDF, DOCX, and various image types like JPEG and PNG.
To enable semantic search, users must ensure their PC is indexed for searching. Navigate to Settings > Privacy & security > Searching Windows and select the Enhanced option to index all locations on your PC. This ensures seamless and comprehensive file retrieval.
While Snapdragon PCs currently lead the charge, Microsoft plans to roll out semantic search to other Copilot+ PCs powered by AMD and Intel processors in the near future.
