EA Discontinuing Origin Launcher in April 2025
Electronic Arts (EA), a leading name in the video game industry, is set to retire its Origin platform on April 17, 2025. Origin, which has long been the exclusive digital hub for EA games on PC, will no longer be supported, requiring users to transition to the newer EA app. This move aligns with EA’s effort to streamline its digital ecosystem, building on the app launched in 2020.
Transitioning is straightforward: download the EA app and log in with your existing Origin credentials. The app should automatically sync your game library and recognize installed games on your PC. Save data stored in the cloud will transfer for most titles, though some manual steps might be necessary for certain games or mods.
The EA app, however, is exclusively 64-bit, which means users with older 32-bit systems will need to upgrade their hardware to continue playing EA titles. For those unwilling or unable to make the switch, many EA games are available on Steam, including newly released titles like Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Additionally, users can link their Origin account with Steam by adding non-Steam games to their Steam library. This provides an alternative way to access previously purchased games while bypassing the dedicated EA app.
