Microsoft Adds New Keyboard Shortcut for Copilot in Windows

For nearly a year, new Windows PCs have featured a dedicated Copilot key, providing a quick way to summon Microsoft’s AI assistant. However, not all users have embraced this feature—some have remapped the key for other functions, while others simply don’t use it at all.

On the other hand, there are those who want easier access to Copilot but don’t have a specialized key on their keyboard. If you’re among them, Microsoft has a solution: a new keyboard shortcut designed to make launching Copilot’s voice assistant more accessible.

According to Microsoft’s latest announcement, holding Alt + Space for 2 seconds will activate Copilot’s voice input, allowing users to start a conversation with the AI assistant hands-free. Once finished, you can press Esc to exit or simply wait for the session to time out if no response is given within a few seconds.

This new shortcut is currently rolling out to Windows Insiders across all channels, with no official timeline for when it will reach all Windows users. However, this update comes at a time when Microsoft has been making significant improvements to Copilot, including a complete rebuild of the app that improves integration with Windows, enhances performance, and delivers more refined AI responses.

For those who may have previously dismissed Copilot, this refreshed experience and new accessibility options could make it worth another look.
