Microsoft Expands Copilot+ Features Beyond Snapdragon—With Some Limits
Microsoft is finally leveling the playing field—at least somewhat—by extending its AI-powered Copilot+ features to more Windows PCs. Until now, many of these exclusive features were reserved only for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon-based systems, leaving AMD and Intel users out of the fun despite hardware that was just as capable. But as of this week, Copilot+ PCs powered by AMD Ryzen AI 300 and Intel Core Ultra 200V series chips are officially eligible for a host of Copilot+ experiences.
In a blog post on Monday, Microsoft confirmed that these expanded AI features now include Live Captions, Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator for all Copilot+ PCs across Snapdragon, AMD, and Intel platforms. However, Microsoft’s wording leaves room for interpretation—the use of “like” in describing the eligible features suggests that not every Copilot+ function is currently available across all chips. For instance, the ability to resize photos inside the Photos app is still limited to Snapdragon systems only.
This development represents a long-awaited shift. When Microsoft and partners announced the first Copilot+ PCs in May 2024, the spotlight—and nearly all of the advanced AI features—was squarely on Snapdragon X-powered devices. Microsoft pledged that AMD and Intel systems would eventually catch up, but progress was slow. While Windows Recall eventually made its way to AMD and Intel systems in December, other promised features remained elusive—until now.
That said, there are still notable exceptions. One of the standout AI capabilities, Voice Access, allows users to control their PCs using flexible, natural language. Unfortunately, that feature remains exclusive to Snapdragon-based Copilot+ PCs for now, though Microsoft says it will roll out to AMD and Intel devices later in 2025.
The company says many of these Copilot+ experiences are arriving as part of the March 2025 non-security preview update, which in turn requires the November 2024 preview update as a prerequisite. Microsoft plans to distribute them gradually using the Windows controlled feature rollout (CFR) mechanism over the next month.
If you own a qualifying AMD or Intel Copilot+ PC, the best way to ensure you get access to the new features is to head into Settings > Windows Update and enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option. Then either manually check for updates or wait for them to roll out to your device automatically.
