Uber is renaming its eco-friendly service “Uber Green” to “Uber Electric” and rolling out a $4,000 grant program to help U.S. drivers transition to electric vehicles, part of its broader goal to make all rides zero-emission by 2040.
The new “Go Electric” initiative will give qualifying drivers up to $4,000 in grants, complementing state-level incentives and manufacturer discounts. The program’s timing is strategic — coming just after the federal $7,500 EV tax credit expired, raising EV prices for buyers.
Uber said the program is vital to maintaining momentum toward sustainability targets. The company already has more than 200,000 EVs operating on its platform worldwide, with adoption in the U.S., Canada, and Europe growing five times faster than among regular motorists.
To mark the rebrand, Uber riders will receive a 20% discount on their next electric trip. The company also plans to expand its battery-aware matching feature — which pairs drivers with rides suited to their remaining charge — to 25 countries, helping reduce range anxiety and make EV driving more practical.
“Electric mobility is the future of our platform,” Uber said in a statement. “This program empowers drivers to make the switch faster and more affordably.”
The initiative positions Uber as a leader in green transportation, as competitors race to electrify fleets amid tightening emissions standards and growing public demand for sustainable travel options.
