Fractal Design has unveiled a new “Momentum Edition” of its popular North and North XL PC cases, offering a darker take on one of the most design-focused enclosures in recent years. The refreshed models keep the signature wood-accented front panel but swap the lighter finishes for a blacked-out aesthetic aimed at builders who prefer a stealthier look.
The Momentum Edition replaces the walnut or oak slats found on the original North cases with “blackened oak,” while metallic details such as the power button and trim have been updated to a darker alloy finish. The result is an almost entirely black case that still retains the North’s distinctive wood-front identity, though in a far more subdued tone.
At launch, both the ATX North and the larger E-ATX North XL Momentum Edition are available only with tempered-glass side panels. Unlike some earlier versions of the North, there is currently no mesh-panel option. Fractal has also upgraded the included cooling setup, equipping the new models with three Momentum-branded 120mm fans instead of the two 140mm fans included with standard versions.
The North series has become one of the most recognizable PC case designs in recent years thanks to its blend of modern airflow-focused construction and furniture-inspired styling. Competitors have increasingly leaned toward similar aesthetics, making the North a reference point for builders seeking something more refined than the typical RGB-heavy chassis.
Pricing for the Momentum Edition reflects its updated materials and extra fan. The standard North Momentum Edition is listed at $180, while the larger North XL version costs $210—roughly a $25 increase over the regular models. Both versions are now available through major retailers.
While the darker look may appeal to builders who want a more understated system, the new release signals Fractal’s continued focus on blending design and performance in the PC case market.
