DDR5 memory prices may be soaring due to the ongoing AI-driven hardware crunch, but some PC builders could be getting a small financial win. A class-action settlement involving memory manufacturer G.Skill is now offering compensation to certain customers who purchased its DDR4 or DDR5 RAM over the past several years.
The case accused G.Skill of overstating advertised memory speeds on some RAM kits sold between January 31, 2018 and January 7, 2026. Under the terms of the settlement, U.S. consumers who purchased eligible G.Skill memory during that window may qualify for compensation if the rated speeds were 2133 MHz or higher for DDR4, or 4800 MHz or higher for DDR5.
The total settlement pool sits at $2.4 million. Individual payouts are expected to land somewhere between $15 and $30 per RAM stick, with a maximum of $150 per claimant. Buyers can submit claims for up to five qualifying products without providing proof of purchase, though documentation is required for larger claims.
While the payout won’t offset today’s inflated memory prices, the claims process itself is relatively simple and only takes a few minutes to complete online. Payments are expected to be distributed after June, and can be delivered through common methods such as PayPal or Zelle.
Realistically, individual payouts may end up being small once all claims are processed. Still, with RAM prices currently several times higher than historical norms, even a modest reimbursement is a rare bit of good news for PC builders navigating the current hardware market.
