Microsoft is quietly testing a visual refresh for Windows 11, introducing rounded corners to parts of File Explorer’s interface.

According to Windows Latest, the update focuses on small UI tweaks, including a redesigned address bar and search box, bringing them in line with the rest of the operating system’s modern aesthetic.

A more consistent design language

The updated search box now closely resembles the one found in the Windows taskbar, reinforcing Microsoft’s push toward a more unified design across the OS.

These changes are subtle but contribute to a cleaner and more cohesive user experience.

Hidden in preview builds

The redesign was first spotted by Windows Insider phantomofearth in preview versions of Windows 11. While the new UI elements are present in multiple builds, they are currently disabled by default, suggesting they are still being tested internally.

No release timeline yet

Microsoft has not announced when—or if—the updated File Explorer design will roll out to all users. As with many experimental UI tweaks, it may evolve further before a public release.

For now, the changes indicate Microsoft’s continued focus on refining Windows 11’s visual consistency rather than introducing major functional overhauls.
