The handheld gaming PC landscape is experiencing a surge in competition, and MSI is making a significant mark with its latest innovation showcased at CES. The MSI Claw, utilizing Intel Core Ultra hardware, is the company’s bold entry into the realm of portable gaming devices. While the Asus ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go have paved the way, the true commitment of these companies to the Steam Deck format remains uncertain. However, MSI seems to be taking a different approach, as an executive reveals they are already deep into the development of a second, third, and even fourth model of the Claw.
In a recent interview with IGN, MSI’s System Product Manager, Clifford Chun, shed light on the ambitious plans for the Claw’s future. He outlined a two-to-three-year lifecycle for the gaming handheld, akin to the company’s laptops. The revelation that caught attention was Chun’s statement about the forthcoming versions: “So, this will be only the first version of our Claw. We are anticipating to come out version 2, version 3, version 4 down the road and it’s already in the pipeline.” However, he tempered the excitement by highlighting the dependency on future CPU and integrated graphics upgrades that are not currently available. Despite the uncertainties, the company’s proactive stance hints at a strong belief in the sustained success of PC gaming handhelds.
