Google hikes Nest Aware prices again, with big increases for Plus plans
Google is raising prices once again for its Nest Aware subscription services, marking the second increase in under two years. The changes are now in effect for new subscribers and will apply to existing customers starting August 15 or once their promotional terms end.
The standard Nest Aware plan, which includes 30 days of event video history, intelligent alerts, and e911 emergency calling, now costs $10 per month—up from $8. The annual subscription has similarly increased to $100, representing a $20 jump over the previous $80-per-year rate. While that’s a 25 percent increase, it’s still more affordable than the expanded plan.
The Nest Aware Plus tier, which adds 60 days of event video history and 10 days of continuous 24/7 video history, is seeing even steeper hikes. Monthly pricing has climbed from $15 to $20—a 33 percent increase—while annual plans now cost $200, up from $150. These higher-tier hikes could sting more for users who rely heavily on the extended footage capabilities for home monitoring.
In an email sent to customers and shared publicly on Reddit, Google claimed that the price increases are necessary to continue delivering value through “new features and innovations,” though no specific upcoming improvements were detailed.
The last Nest Aware price increase took place in September 2023, when monthly fees jumped from $6 to $8 for the base plan and from $12 to $15 for the Plus option. This means that in less than two years, monthly Nest Aware Plus costs have risen by more than 66 percent—from $12 to $20—while the standard plan has gone up by nearly 70 percent in the same span.
Nest Aware subscriptions remain optional but essential for users who want more than just live view functionality from their Nest cameras. With the standard plan, users get 30 days of event-based recordings and smart alerts for sounds like smoke alarms or breaking glass. The Plus plan further adds comprehensive coverage with continuous video history for high-traffic areas or critical surveillance zones.
