Desktop PCs haven’t always looked like the sleek, tower-style cases covered in RGB lights that dominate today’s market. In fact, if you go back to the 1980s and 90s, many computers actually resembled common household appliances — bulky, beige, and decidedly utilitarian. That nostalgic aesthetic has experienced a resurgence among enthusiasts and manufacturers alike, and MainGear is now joining the movement with its own homage to those classic days.

Their new offering, called the Retro95, is a fully pre-assembled desktop PC built around a horizontal case design inspired by the vintage beige desktops of the past. The chassis itself is a rebadged version of the Silverstone FLP01, a case that supports modern ATX-standard components while perfectly capturing the retro vibe. The front panel is especially charming, featuring faux floppy drives that evoke memories of a bygone era. The lower “floppy” cleverly flips down to reveal a practical I/O panel, including two USB-A ports, one USB-C port, and a headphone jack—keeping things convenient despite the vintage look. The upper bay is functional, accommodating a full 5.25-inch disk drive, a feature almost unheard of in today’s PC builds.

MainGear plans to offer the Retro95 in multiple configurations starting at $1,599. While the base model will be more modest, enthusiasts can opt for high-end components such as a Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, an Nvidia RTX 5080 graphics card, up to 96GB of memory, and a massive 8TB of storage. It’s important to note that these flagship specs will come at a premium, and not everyone will need—or want—to max out their build like this. One minor downside: while the Retro95 supports 5.25-inch drives, there’s no official word on whether it ships with a CD drive included, so you might have to install one yourself if you want optical media support.

MainGear emphasizes that this is a limited drop, launching today with no firm details on how many units will be produced or the full range of pricing tiers. Their warning is clear: “once they’re gone, they’re gone.” For fans of retro computing aesthetics who want a powerful modern PC wrapped in classic styling, the Retro95 might just be the perfect blend of old and new.
