Microsoft appears to be stepping up its efforts to retain users on Edge, its Chromium-based browser, with a new advertisement that targets Chrome searchers. According to Windows Latest, users searching for “Chrome” in Bing while using Edge may now see a promotional message reading, “All you need is right here.” The ad includes a comparison table highlighting Edge’s features relative to Chrome and emphasizes that Edge runs on the same underlying technology as Chrome but with “the added trust of Microsoft.” Quick-access links to popular apps like YouTube, Gmail, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Netflix are also featured.

This move is the latest in a long series of tactics by Microsoft to dissuade users from switching to Chrome. Previously, the company injected prompts and polls when users tried to download Chrome from Edge, and earlier this year, it even made the Chrome download link more difficult to locate. Microsoft continues to experiment with new ways to persuade users to stick with Edge, reflecting the company’s broader strategy of keeping its browser ecosystem competitive.

Edge itself has undergone substantial improvements in recent years. Beyond adding AI-powered features, the browser has become faster and more stable, with Microsoft committing to support Edge even after Windows 10 reaches its end of life. However, critics note that aggressive promotional tactics like the latest ad campaign could alienate users who are undecided, as many remaining Windows users are already loyal to Chrome or other browsers.

Ultimately, the advertisement highlights Microsoft’s persistent focus on growing Edge’s market share, even as the browser landscape remains dominated by Chrome. While the browser itself has become more capable, the mixed reception to Microsoft’s promotional tactics may determine whether these efforts successfully convert users or backfire.
