MSI, a brand long associated with gaming laptops, PCs, and components, is making a surprising leap into the electric vehicle space with its first line of home EV chargers. The company has unveiled the Level 2 “EV Life” and “EV Life Plus” chargers, which support both the widely used SAE J1772 connector and the increasingly popular NACS standard now being adopted by Tesla and automakers like Nissan. With this move, MSI joins the growing number of traditional tech companies diversifying beyond computing hardware.
The new lineup includes four EV Life models priced between $449.99 and $499.99, and four EV Life Plus units priced between $549.99 and $599.99. The difference lies primarily in connectivity: while the EV Life series relies on Bluetooth and smartphone apps for charge monitoring, the EV Life Plus adds Wi-Fi and Ethernet support for more advanced management. Each charger is available in either plug-in or hardwired configurations, comes with a 24.6-foot charging cable, and is capable of handling up to 240 volts at 60 amps, delivering as much as 14.4kW. According to MSI, that equates to adding between 43 and 59 miles of range per hour of charging.
MSI emphasizes that the chargers are built for durability, boasting IP55 and IP67 water- and dust-resistance ratings, along with the ability to operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°F to 131°F. The company also notes that the chargers are UL- and Energy Star-certified, and they ship with a five-year warranty. The entry into EV infrastructure marks a significant departure from MSI’s traditional portfolio, signaling a bold step into a fast-growing market where home charging solutions are becoming as essential as the EVs themselves.
