Adobe announced on Tuesday that its flagship creative tools — including Photoshop and Premiere Pro — can now be controlled through AI-powered conversations, marking a major evolution in how users interact with its software. The company also confirmed that it is working with OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, to enable direct control of its Adobe Express app through the chatbot interface.
The new functionality transforms Adobe’s suite into conversational editing platforms, where users can describe tasks and watch AI “agents” execute commands — from tapping buttons to adjusting sliders — just as a human assistant would. Despite this automation, Adobe emphasized that manual control remains available, allowing creators to fine-tune AI-generated edits in real time.
Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer for Digital Media, explained that this redesign allows deeper third-party integrations. “You can adjust the edits the agent in ChatGPT is making, and then bring them into Express to continue the conversation with our built-in design agent,” he said. “From there, users have access to the full suite of creative tools.”
The collaboration with OpenAI will make it possible for users to initiate design projects directly within ChatGPT, edit them via text interaction, and then seamlessly finish them in Adobe Express or other Creative Cloud apps.
Adobe’s announcement follows its broader AI initiative launched with Firefly in 2023 — a generative AI engine capable of producing high-quality images, videos, and templates from text prompts. Now, with conversational control and intelligent automation, the company is moving toward a hybrid creative workflow where chat-based AI and traditional editing coexist.
The new AI assistant inside Adobe Express is available immediately, while full ChatGPT integration is still under development with no official release date yet.
