Amazon Pharmacy will launch its first electronic prescription kiosks in One Medical clinics starting this December, allowing patients to pick up medications on-site instead of waiting for home delivery.

The pilot, beginning in Los Angeles, will cover common prescriptions like antibiotics, asthma inhalers, and blood pressure drugs. Customers can consult Amazon pharmacists virtually through the kiosks, which will stock inventory tailored to local provider demand.

The kiosks mark a shift from Amazon’s delivery-only model and are part of a strategy to cut shipping costs and boost convenience. “If you put inventory closer to customers, your shipping costs go way down and your demand goes way up,” said Hannah McClellan Richards, Amazon Pharmacy’s vice president.

Non-members can also use the kiosks after visiting One Medical clinics, while members continue to pay $199 annually for enhanced access. Expansion to other U.S. regions is planned for 2026, alongside potential collaborations with external healthcare systems.

Amazon, valued at $2.34 trillion, has steadily expanded into healthcare through acquisitions like PillPack (2018) and One Medical (2023). The move strengthens its position in the digital health and pharmacy sector while addressing one of its biggest cost challenges — shipping.
