Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched a criminal investigation into Roblox Corp, accusing the gaming platform of failing to protect children from online predators. Uthmeier announced the move in a video on X, calling Roblox “a breeding ground for predators” and alleging the company profited while “enabling our kids to be abused.”
The subpoenas will allow prosecutors to gather detailed evidence of suspected exploitation on the platform, including communications between predators and victims. The action comes as Roblox, one of the world’s most popular gaming ecosystems, continues to face mounting scrutiny over child safety and content moderation.
Following a Hindenburg Research report last year that accused the platform of lax protections, Roblox has introduced several safety features — including AI-powered monitoring, tighter messaging rules for users under 13, and filters that block the sharing of personal information. A company spokesperson told Reuters that “no system is perfect,” but added that Roblox employs trained teams and automated tools to monitor harmful content.
The controversy widened internationally after Iraq banned Roblox, claiming the platform exposes children to exploitation and “incompatible social content.” Meanwhile, the company faces multiple U.S. lawsuits from states including Louisiana, alleging it enables predators to operate with insufficient oversight.
