Intel has outlined its Panther Lake processor, the first chip built on its new 18A manufacturing process, signaling a major step in its turnaround plan to regain leadership in semiconductor production.

Targeting high-end AI-powered laptops, Panther Lake delivers up to 50% faster performance than its predecessor Lunar Lake, thanks to a new transistor design and improved power delivery. The chip combines graphics and CPU functions in a single system-on-chip layout to enhance efficiency.

Production begins later this year, with full rollout expected by January 2026. The launch will test Intel’s ability to scale 18A manufacturing after years of delays and competition from TSMC and AMD.

Intel’s Arizona Fab 52 facility is central to this effort and will also produce Clearwater Forest, its next-gen server chip optimized for AI data centers, launching in 2026. CEO Lip-Bu Tan called Panther Lake and 18A “catalysts for innovation across our business.”

Analysts view the chip as crucial proof that Intel’s costly turnaround and renewed CHIPS Act support — now including a 9.9% U.S. government equity stake — can restore its technical edge.
