Intel has announced that CEO Lip-Bu Tan will assume direct oversight of the company’s AI and Advanced Technologies Groups after Chief Technology Officer Sachin Katti left to join OpenAI.
Katti, who played a key role in Intel’s AI initiatives, confirmed on X that he will now help OpenAI design and expand the compute infrastructure supporting its artificial general intelligence (AGI) research.
Intel said it remains committed to its AI roadmap: “AI remains one of Intel’s highest strategic priorities, and we are focused on executing our technology and product roadmap across emerging AI workloads.”
The leadership change adds to a series of executive departures since Tan took over in March. Intel, long a leader in traditional processors, has faced challenges in competing with Nvidia and TSMC in high-performance AI chips.
Tan has responded by promoting internal leaders and recruiting outside talent, including former Arm executive Kevork Kechichian, to accelerate Intel’s turnaround and strengthen its foundry business.
