Dutch investment firm Prosus is exploring an early-stage bid for Mobile.de, Germany’s largest online auto marketplace, as owners Permira and Blackstone prepare a potential IPO valued at up to €10 billion, sources told Reuters.
While the shareholders currently favor a stock market listing, Prosus may pursue an acquisition through its OLX classifieds division. The company, which recently bought France’s La Centrale motors platform for €1.1 billion, is expanding its reach across Europe’s fast-growing digital car sales sector.
Other bidders, including EQT, Cinven, and Apax, have also expressed interest, though no formal sale process has begun.
Mobile.de is owned by Adevinta, which Permira and Blackstone acquired in 2023. Since then, the investors have been restructuring Adevinta by selling off regional assets in Spain and Austria.
A Prosus acquisition could accelerate its growth strategy in the European online auto market, complementing its OLX network and bolstering its position against competitors like AutoScout24 and Cazoo.
