Infineon Technologies sees significant future growth in microchips designed for humanoid robots, according to CEO Jochen Hanebeck.

Speaking to Handelsblatt, Hanebeck said the emerging market for humanoid robot components could become as important as today’s demand for high-performance semiconductors used in AI data centres.

Infineon is already positioned to benefit from this shift. The company can produce many of the necessary chips for human-like robots using its existing expertise, particularly from its work in autonomous driving systems.

Hanebeck noted that because of this overlap, the company would not need extensive new in-house technology development to participate in the robotics boom.

As industries increasingly invest in automation and embodied AI systems, demand for specialised chips that power sensing, movement and decision-making in humanoid machines is expected to rise.

Infineon aims to leverage its current semiconductor capabilities to capture a share of this potential market expansion.
